"Please Raise Your Hand If You Agree With This Statement...."

I have to confess I don't watch many of these debates so be patient with me if I seem a little naive here. I noticed at various times throughout the debate last night, moderator Brian Williams would stop and ask closed-ended questions of the jockeying Power Whores - something I haven't seen yet. The one that I readily remember was (paraphrase) "Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'There is a Global War on Terror.'" Naturally, Ms. Ohio, Dennis Kucinich didn't raise his hand, and I have to admit I was shocked when Ms. North Carolina John Edwards didn't either (I have an obviously very low opinion of the Breck Girl, but even that surprised me, given his 2004 acceptance Speech at the Democratic National Convention - "John and Ahh will destroy you..")

Here are some statements I'd have loved for Williams to throw at the panel:

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'The vast majority of taxes in this country, especially in the last six years, have been paid by the lower and middle classes.'"

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'The Bush Administration is a greater threat to the world than Al-Qaeda or Iran.'"

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'George W. Bush personally had a hand in engineering the 9/11 attacks.'"

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'If the US doesn't host the 2016 Olympics, its because of Bush's Foreign Policy.'"

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'While the Government takes in 9 cents on the dollar in gasoline taxes to feed the children, ExxonMobil makes more than 40 cents on the dollar in profit.'"

"Raise your hand if you agree with this statement. 'Harry Reid is correct in his assessment that the War in Iraq is lost.'"

All of these statements are scandalously false, yet I'd love to have heard them put to the Power Whores last night. Sorry they weren't.
