Lugar Should Know Better

From Yahoo News (bold emphasis mine):

"In my judgment, the costs and risks of continuing down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be achieved," Lugar, R-Ind., said in a Senate floor speech. "Persisting indefinitely with the surge strategy will delay policy adjustments that have a better chance of protecting our vital interests over the long term."

The unusually blunt assessment deals a political blow to Bush, who has relied heavily on GOP support to stave off anti-war legislation.

Couple of questions for both Lugar and The Associated Press (who bring the story to Yahoo):

First, what are the consequences of abandoning Iraq before it is ready to defend against the Islamists we are fighting there? The costs of running from the fight FAR outweigh some temporary gain.

Second, why aren't you talking about the successes of the surge? Are you paying attention? Or are you doing what is politically expedient?

Lastly, why does the AP refer to this as a "political blow to Bush"? If Bush loses the fight to keep us battling al-Qaeda in Iraq because of comments like Lugar's, isn't it safe to say the consequences of such a defeat go much further than just GWB's political career? Its like the same old nonsense with referring to the GWOT as "Bush's War On Terror." Hey, Useful Idiots, the Islamists will shut you fools down first in a take over of free society. Sounds to me like your bigger enemy should be the Islamofascism that "Bush is fighting."

But, that's why I call you people in the Mainstream Media "Useful Idiots". I don't expect you to understand that.

This from IBD Editorials continues the discussion of Lugar's foolishness.
